Former Christian brother Seamus TreacyA FORMER Christian Brother is to face trial in Limerick on over 100 charges of indecently assaulting young boys more than 30 years ago.

Pensioner Seamus Tracey, with an address at Ashton Close, Swords, Dublin, was presented with a completed book of evidence at Limerick District Court this week.

The 70-year-old is charged with 138 counts of alleged indecent assault on 13 boys at the CBS primary school on Sexton Street and at St Enda’s swimming pool at Roxboro, on dates between 1978 and 1981.

At Limerick District Court, Garda Deirdre Foley from Roxboro Garda Station presented the former Christian Brother with the completed book of evidence - which runs to three volumes.

Sgt Donal Cronin told the court the Director of Public Prosecutions has consented to the matter being sent forward for trial during the next sitting of Limerick Circuit Court.

The accused’s solicitor, Bobby Eager, of Garret Sheehan and Company in Dublin, said that given the number and antiquity of the charges he was applying to have himself plus two counsel assigned to the case, which was granted by Judge Eugene O’Kelly.

The accused will remain on bail awaiting his appearance before his next hearing in the Circuit Criminal Court in Limerick.
