Dean of Llandaff resigns after just two months in post

Click to enlargeTHE first female Dean of Llandaff, the Very Revd Janet Henderson, has resigned, just over two months after she was installed.

The Church in Wales announced on Thursday evening that the Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, who is also Bishop of Llandaff, had accepted Dean Henderson's resignation "with enormous sadness".

Her resignation is with immediate effect.

Dr Morgan has asked the Archdeacon of Llandaff, the Ven. Peggy Jackson, as the senior member of the cathedral Chapter, "to have necessary oversight of the Cathedral on his behalf, until a new Dean is appointed", the Church in Wales said.

No reasons have been given for Dean Henderson's resignation.

A spokeswoman for the Church in Wales said that Dr Morgan would be making no further comment.

The appointment of Dean Henderson, who is 55, was announced in November.

Originally from Neath, she went to school in Llandaff. She was Archdeacon of Richmond, in the diocese of Ripon & Leeds, for five years before her appointment, and had been a residentiary canon of Ripon Cathedral.

At the time of her appointment, Dr Morgan said that she had "a wide experience of city and cathedral ministry, and I am sure she will make a huge contribution to the life and society of Llandaff - a place with which she is already very familiar."
