Vatican Museums re-open access to Raphael frescoes after restoration

Restoration of Raphael frescoes completed at Vatican museumsRestoration work has been completed on a famous series of frescoes by Raphael in the Vatican Museums.

Workers’ scaffolds have been removed from the Room of Heliodorus, which Antontio Paolucci, the director of the Vatican Museums, describes as “the masterpiece of Raphael.”

The room is named for one of the frescoes, which depicts the expulsion of Heliodorus from the temple.

The room, which will now be re-opened to the public, is one of several in the Vatican Museums painted by Raphael, originally to serve as the apartments of Pope Julius II.
