The daily Ad Diyar said that the Vatican is “beginning to study the possibility of postponing the visit over the dangerous situation in Lebanon and the region.”
Pope Benedict is due to travel to Lebanon on September 14.
During his visit he is scheduled to release his apostolic exhortation concluding the work of the Synod of Bishops on the Middle East.
However, escalating violence in neighboring Syria has raised concerns that the strife could spill over into Lebanon.
The Vatican has given no indication that plans for the papal trip could be changed.
