‘Nuns on Bus’ attack Ryan

"Nuns on the Bus", a group of American Catholic nuns who campaign for social justice, have attacked Republican Vice-Presidential Nominee Paul Ryan, saying that his budget would "hit the poor hard."

Sr Simone Campbell, who led the recent bus tour across nine states in two weeks, is recruiting teams of sisters to lobby state legislators to protest over the budget proposed by Mr Ryan, who is also a Catholic.

She told the American television programme The O'Reilly Show, broadcast on the Fox News network: "What I want is money in the pockets of hardworking people who are living below the poverty level...The Ryan budget gives money to the top, not the bottom."

She also criticised Mr Ryan's nomination as Republican Vice Presidential candidate and said that he did not support senior citizens.
