Hopes rise as part of historic bell found

A priceless bronze bell believed to weigh anything up to 28 stone has been stolen from a former church in Co KerryHOPES that a historic bronze bell would be recovered were raised yesterday, following the recovery of part of the priceless object.

About one quarter of the 236-year-old bell and the clapper was found in a laneway in Castleisland, Co Kerry, yesterday afternoon, not far from where it had been stolen two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, parishioners are appealing for the safe return of a cloth relic which was allegedly worn by an apostle of Jesus.

The relic of St Jude were stolen from a site, near a disused school at Calvary, near Omeath, Co Louth, on July 20. Locals want now to bring the theft to national attention.
