Dublin churches hear confessions of the shopaholics

The Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin has called on parish priests to open their confession boxes later in a bid to encourage those with frivolous spending habits to declare their expensive offences.

Dublin churches opened until 8pm last night and will do again tonight in a move that will give shopaholics access to confession boxes post late night shopping splurges.

The extension of confession opening hours comes ahead of the 50th International Eurcharistic Congress (IEC) of which the theme is reconciliation, a focal point that is expected to bring even more sinners to their knees in the Irish capital.
